The New York Islanders have signed goaltender David Rittich to a one-year contract.
Rittich, 32, appeared in 34 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season, posting a 2.84 goals-against average (GAA) and an .887 save percentage (SV%). It marked the third straight season and the sixth time in his career that Rittich appeared in at least 20 NHL games.
A native of Jihlava, Czechia, Rittich played parts of nine NHL seasons with the Kings, Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames. In 230 career NHL games, Rittich has accumulated a record of 108-71-26 with a 2.79 GAA, .904 SV% and seven shutouts. A 2020 NHL All-Star Game participant, his best NHL season came in 2018-19 with the Flames, where he established a record of 27-9-5 with a 2.61 GAA and .911 SV%.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Calgary in 2016, Rittich has played in 59 American Hockey League games with the Stockton Heat and Ontario Reign, posting a 29-22-7 record with a 2.55 GAA, .911 SV% and 10 shutouts. In four Calder Cup Playoffs games with Stockton, Rittich went 2-1-0 with a 2.88 GAA and .917 SV%.
On the international stage, Rittich represented Czechia at the 2018 IIHF Men's World Championship, posting a 2-1-0 record with a 1.98 GAA, .900 SV% and one shutout.
